Echo grumbled to herself as she cleaned up the ‘mess’ she had made. The teacher was a hot head, so he sent her on probation. She grumbled to herself as she worked, picking up debris and sweeping away the shards of metal. She noticed a small round orb amongst the debris, so she picked it up and examined it. It began to beep, faster and faster. “What the-”

*BOOM*

A cloud of purple smoke exploded from the orb. Coughing and sputtering, Echo crawled out of the purple mass and coughed some more. Giggling came from behind a wall. Standing up, Echo stormed over and peered behind the wall. Sunstreaker and Sideswipe were giggling like mad.

“Shhh. She’ll here us!” one whispered while giggling.

“I’m trying!” another whispered. Echo couldn’t tell who was saying what, because their backs were turned to her. Echo looked down at her hands. They were bright purple. So was the rest of her. She stomped her foot quietly, sending sound waves over to the twins. It knocked them off balance, and they toppled on top of each other.

“Very funny, guys. How they heck do you wash this stuff off?”

“Ah! She found us!” Sunstreaker whispered as he scrambled to his feet.

“What do we do?” Sideswipe replied.

“You guys could give me a hand.” Echo answered. She walked over and dragged both of them by the arms. “You owe me one for turning me purple.”

“Come one, do you have a sense of humor?” Sideswipe asked.

“No, I don’t.”

The twin groaned and Echo handed them trash cans. “Get started. Just stuff all of the junk in the cans, and then you’re done.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Finishing up with her ‘probation’, Echo washed all of the purple smoke off. It turned out, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker were big time jokers. They loved practical jokes, pranks, and the smoke bomb was their first prank.

“You never smile! Lighten up!” Sunstreaker told her.

“How am I supposed to lighten up?” she replied tensely.

“I don’t know. I’ll think of something.”

Sideswipe and Sunstreaker were far from what Echo was used to. Her life was always so strict, and the twins were the exact opposite. The twins were confused about Echo’s somberness, so they made it their pet project to find a way to make her laugh, or at least smile.

Echo was at her locker when the rest of the new students came over. They were discussing their family, and where they were from.

“Well, me and my bro are from the downtown area of one of Cybertron’s cities. Our parents had to save up big time to send us here, so we’re going to graduate and become head of the weapons center. We have a knack for mechanics.” Sideswipe told everyone. Sunstreaker nodded his head in agreement.

“I’m from a down town area too. But I want to become a scientist at the intelligence center. My parents wanted my brother to go, but they sent me instead when he became a mechanic.” Bluestreak said.

“Energon farm. Join aerial defense team, just like my dad.” Jetfire mumbled. Hot Rod went next.

“I’m from the city, and I want to join the Elite Guard. I’ve wanted to my whole life.” He glanced at Echo, who was organizing her stuff in her locker. “Hey, Mini Optimus, how ‘bout you?”

“Don’t call me that.” She growled. “My dad sent me here because he hates me. I’ve never gotten along with my dad, and my mom died right after I was born. I got along with my uncle better, and I haven’t seen him since I was a sparkling.”

“Optimus Prime can actually hate someone! I’m amazed.” Sunstreaker said with surprise in his voice.

“Optimus Prime isn’t my dad! Sentinel Prime is. I have no idea why I look like Optimus.” Echo shouted. She slammed her locker, and stormed out of the room.

Everyone stared at her, until Hot Rod muttered, “So that’s Sentinel Prime’s daughter. I’ve heard of her, but never actually saw her.” He jumped off of the table he was sitting on, and shouted, “Hey, Echo! Wait up!”

Echo had stormed outside of the academy, and sat on one of the benches. She groaned as she laid back and looked at the sky. Closing her eyes, she remembered the morning after Optimus had abandoned her.

Sentinel Prime was sitting on the couch, flicking around the channels. Echo had crawled out of bed, and asked, “Uncle?” Sentinel turned to her and rolled his eyes.

“He’s not here. He left last night.”

“Uncle? No, where Uncle!”

Sentinel stood up and glared. “I told you, he’s not here!”

Echo crawled to the door and tried to open it. Her tiny hands were too small to open the door. She began to pound on the door. “Uncle! Uncle!” she shouted. Realizing that indeed Optimus wasn’t there, she asked, “He come back?”

“No, he’s not coming back.”

Echo’s face expressed shock. She shook it, and she began to cry. “Uncle! Uncle…”

“Hey, Echo!” a voice called. Echo’s eyes few open and Hot Rod’s face came into her view.

“What, here to mock me some more?” she asked as she sat up.

Hot Rod rubbed his head in embarrassment. “No, I came to apologize. I shouldn’t have said that.”

Echo put a hand on her head and sighed. “It’s okay. I’m just in a bad mood. Things have been tough at home, so I’ve become aggravated. I should be the one to apologize.”

Hot Rod looked surprised, and then he smiled. “You’re a lot like Optimus Prime, you know.”

“How would you know?” she asked with a groan.

“I met him once a while back.”

Echo stood up. “You did?”

“Yeah, I did. He seemed really sad, just like you. I got lost in the city and he helped me get home. He also told me about this little sparkling he knew.”

Hot Rod paused. He could see shock displayed across her face. “He said she was the cutest little thing in the world. He also said that she had an adorable laugh. He kept going on and on, and the more I listened, the more I wanted to meet her. Finally, I asked that maybe he could bring her to meet me one day. That’s when he started to act like you.”

“He did?”

“He got all quiet, and sad. He simply said, ‘I can’t’, and I realized I was home. I ran inside, not even thinking of saying thank you, and I haven’t seen him since.”

Echo looked at the ground. “I haven’t seen Optimus Prime sine I was a baby. He left after getting into a fight with my dad. My dad never took care of me, so Optimus would fill in. Then one morning, I woke up, and he just wasn’t there. Every morning after that, I would wake up hoping that he would be there, but he wasn’t. It’s been that way ever since. It felt like… he abandoned me.”

Hot Rod took a seat, and Echo sat next to him. They were both staring at the ground. “Living with Sentinel Prime really messed you up, didn’t it?”

Echo looked at him, and said, “I guess you could say that.”

Optimus Prime watched Echo and Hot Rod talk. He remembered meeting Hot Rod a few solar cycles ago. He was very curious, and had wanted to meet Echo. Optimus smiled a sad smile. “I wish you could have met the Echo I told you about.” He muttered.

After a few weeks, Echo began to feel happy again. The classes were hard, but she had made friends with Jetfire, Bluestreak, Hot Rod, Sunstreaker, and Sideswipe. It began to feel like she had a family. A caring one. Sunstreaker and Sideswipe had succeeded on completing their project.

One day, it was locker clean out, Sunstreaker and accidently knocked over a whole case of smoke bombs. The entire locker room was coated in red, blue, green, purple, orange, yellow, and black. Everyone looked at each other, and they heard a small laugh. Everyone looked at the twins, but the laugh came from another direction. They looked at the door, and Echo was giggling.

“You guys… look… like someone stuck you through a paint shop of an insane painter.” She mumbled between giggles. Sunstreaker let out a whoop, and Side swipe exclaimed gleefully, “We got her to laugh! We got her to LAUGH!”

But Echo was dreading the beginning of break. Everyone got to go home for ten mega cycles. That would mean she was stuck with her dad. Everyone waited at the station for the express trains to take them home. Thankfully, Hot Rod was in the same sector as Echo, so he promised to come and visit her as often as possible. He didn’t want all of the work everyone but into seeing Echo smile and laugh go down the drain. Loading off the express, Hot Rod looked for his parents. Instead, he saw a familiar looking shape on the other side of the crowd.

“Echo, look.” He whispered as he pointed to it. Echo stopped looking for Sentinel, and glanced the way he was pointing. Her mouth dropped open. Dropping her luggage, she raced through the crowd, keeping her eyes glued to the figure.

Finally catching up, she grabbed his arm and took a few breaths. The transformer turned in surprise. Only two words were spoken.

“Echo?”

“Uncle!”
My dream saga continues. I bet there's going to be more, and I'm wondering if Sentinel Prime is going to show up. Probably yes, because knowing my brain it's not going to let the story end there. If I find out about it tonight, you might read about it on thursday, because tomorrow is going to be crazy and I definently won't have time to write about anything!
